Welcome to the Institute for Total Carpet Hygiene (ITCH)
website. ITCH has been created to highlight the importance of
caring for your carpet.
Recent research undertaken by ITCH shows that even after
regular vacuuming, a carpet will still harbour dirt and
bacteria which can be harmful to you and your family’s health.
ITCH tested living room carpet samples, taken from the
homes of a family, a young couple and a single professional,
to find out what remains in the carpet after vacuuming
alone.
The results were astonishing and showed high levels of
bacteria as well as dirt, pollen grains, skin cells, rodent
hairs and insect fragments nestling deep in the carpet
fibres.
